Nepal Art Traders
Nepal Art Traders, located at Thamel, is the “House of thangka Art” – intricate scroll painting depicting century old Buddhist iconography. The collection of artworks includes thangka and traditional newari paubha and paintings, metal crafts, wood crafts and various museum quality collectibles.
In Nepal, the production of Thangka Paintings is an age-old tradition. A thangka is a composite three-dimensional object consisting of a picture plane which is painted, a textile mounting and one or more of the following: a silk cover, wooden dowels at the top and bottom and metal or wooden decorative knobs on the bottom dowel.
Like any other virtuous deed, the commissioning of thangka art was believed to earn merit, which in the Buddhist view could give rise to happiness.
Thangkas are intended to serve as a record of, and guide for contemplative experience and a medium through which the highest ideals of Buddhism were evoked and brought alive.
